The RT3® Flight friction tester is gaining traction in the airport community.  Through word of mouth, our customer base is growing. Why? Because the RT3® works.

Unlike competing equipment on the market the RT3® is designed to meet the challenges of being used in harsh conditions and in a fast past environment where reliability and accuracy of results are critical to success.

Why do you want to measure surface friction?

Very simply, it is because you have thousands of peoples’ lives in your hands and you need to keep the surfaces that their planes land on safe.

This means that you need a reliable piece of equipment; one that gives you an accurate, objective surface friction result that you can rely upon to make decisions about how to treat that surface and whether planes are safe to land.  You need to make those decisions quickly.

Our customers have bought the RT3® for many reasons. Each customer has their own requirements and challenges they have to meet.

How we help our customers

1. We generate objective, accurate operator independent friction results

This may sound simple, but it is not. All of our customers have used tools to measure runway friction in the past that generated results they doubted. Now, with the RT3® Flight friction tester, they have results they can trust.

2. We reduce the time it takes to complete testing.

You get in the truck, turn on the engine and you can start testing.  Further, you can drive at the speed that is safe during winter testing (between10-60 mph).

3. How we help our customers.

The RT3® Flight Friction Tester is not a trailer. It is a self contained unit that is integrated to the vehicle. The RT3® Flight Friction Tester can be removed in about 20 minutes, when needed.  Most airports leave the unit on for the testing season. The smaller airports that do not do rubber removal remove it for the summer months.

4. We eliminate wear and tear on the vehicle and more importantly, your people.

There is no braking to obtain the result.

5. We make it easy.

We know how little time you have out there on the airfield. The software is simple, intuitive and you can set up between runs in a matter of seconds. You can email or call in the results.

6. We save you money.

You have a right to be skeptical about this statement. But it is true. With objective data that is accurate, you can optimize your operations over time and select the best treatment method for the conditions.  Also the RT3® has very minimal maintenance requirements and has an all stainless steel construction.

7. We listen.

As we grow our business, we learn more from each airport that we bring on board. We work closely with our customer base to improve our product so they in turn can improve their operations.

Just ask our customers and they will tell you.

“Halliday RT3® worked as advertised “right out of the box”. Additionally Alex and Don followed up, and still do, to make sure that it is working properly as designed. It is our opinion that they are not just selling a piece of equipment for the sake of a sale – they want you to be satisfied and have data with meaning. By using this data we have been able to save thousands of dollars in just one winter event through changing how we treated the surface.”

How the RT3® Works

The RT3® Flight mounts to the frame of the host vehicle. This vehicle can be supplied by the customer, or by Halliday Technologies.  We usually install at the customers location when they supply the vehicle.  For those customers looking for winter friction testing only, they can buy the RT3® Flight only which meets FAA specifications FAA Circular 150-5200-30C, for Airport Winter Safety Operations.  In addition, the friction values the RT3® generates align to conditions listed in the TALPA ARC table.

For rubber removal testing, a water system is added to the base RT3® Flight.  This water system allows the RT3® Flight to comply with FAA Circular 5320-12C, for the Measurement, Construction, and Maintenance of Skid Resistant Airport Pavement Surfaces.

Both the RT3® Flight and the RT3® Flight Water System can be removed from the vehicle. Some airports chose to make their units dedicated. Others remove their systems from the host vehicle outside of testing periods.

Halliday Technologies is committed to promoting environmental sustainability.

We choose each product in the manufacturing process to be durable. Ensuring the RT3® is built to last, we can drive down life cycle costs for our customers. Additionally, through objective and reliable data, our customers can reduce their chemical and salt usage during winter events by optimizing their treatment approach.
